Going for Go

People have been playing Go for 4,000 years. In one story, a Chinese emperor
made the game for his son. He wanted him to become a good leader.

千年的歷史，傳說中，一位中國的皇帝，希望他的兒子能成為好的領袖，因此發明了圍棋。

Now, older people in China and Japan like Go. Younger people in Taiwan and
South Korea like Go.
如今中國跟日本的老一輩人喜歡下棋，台灣跟南韓的年輕族群也喜歡。

Go is like chess. Winning these games takes time, thinking, and skill …
圍棋跟西洋棋很像，都需要花時間思考跟技巧，才能贏得比賽。

Go has two players. One player has black stones. The other has white stones.
圍棋需要兩個玩家，一個下黑棋，一個下白棋。

Go is played on a board. Lines go across the board. Lines go down it too. The
players take turns. They put a stone where two lines touch. The player who
gets the biggest part of the board wins!
圍棋要在圍棋板上玩，板上有格子，玩家們在交叉的點上放自己的棋子。誰能佔領最大的區域，誰就贏得比賽。

This year, a 22-year-old player from Taiwan surprised everyone. Lai Jun-fu
played in a big tournament in South Korea. He was number 59 in the world.
今年，台灣的選手讓大家很驚訝。22
歲的賴均輔到南韓參加大型的比賽，他原本的世界排名是 59 。

Lai played against the number one player. And Lai won... by half a point!
He's the first Taiwanese to win this tournament!
賴均輔贏了最厲害的選手半分，得到冠軍! 他是第一個贏得這項比賽的台灣選手!

Lai won more than two million Taiwan dollars! Wow! Let's go and give Go a go!

1. surprise 驚訝。
Wow, chess! 哇，西洋棋!
You're playing chess on the computer! 你在電腦上下西洋棋!

2. skill 技巧。
I know you're smart. 我知道你很聰明。

3. think 思考。
It takes a lot of thinking too. 也需要很多思考。
